Spring Show is:
Aladdin

"A dream is a wish your heart makes" is a song from Cinderella that could sum up the Petite Players. Grand Theatre owner Lori Kolodziej could only dream of a Children’s Drama Troupe years before she, and a group of dedicated parents and volunteers, were able to make it a reality.

Back in the spring of 2007, Musical Theatre students at the Grand Theatre were looking for a way to continue their theatre experience, stay together as a group, and showcase their talents on a regular basis. Parent Stacy Marzolf agreed to direct a group of 28 kids in their first production of Jungle Book. The success of that show resulted in the initial formation of the Petite Players (Petite was chosen as a "play" on the theatre’s name Grand).

In February 2008 the Grand Theatre hired Richard Hinkelman to direct the Petite Players on a full-time basis. The group has grown to nearly 50 members now in grades 5-12. The program strives to enhance self-esteem, foster team spirit, and provide an outstanding opportunity for young people to share in the thrill of the performing arts.

One of the real benefits of the program is the opportunity to meet and act with children from many different schools. No less than thirteen schools are represented including Elizabeth Forward, West Jefferson Hills, Clairton, Propel-McKeesport, Belle Vernon, Yough, Ringgold, South Park, Brentwood, Bishop McDowell, East Allegheny, St. Angela’s in White Oak, and Wilson Christian Academy.

In addition to two performances per year, the program schedules regular workshops and field trips to allow members to experience the technical aspects of theatre.

The emphasis is on the process, not just the product. Children learn that in order to make a show successful every role is important.
