We will be holding auditions for Petite Players (ages 10-13) and Stagemasters ages 14-18 in the Spring of 2011. Those auditioning should prepare 32 bars of an up-tempo song (preferably a musical theater piece).
Song should demonstrate the student’s vocal range and ability.  A piano accompanist will be provided for those bringing sheet music. Otherwise, taped or CD accompaniment (karaoke trax) will be acceptable.

Those auditioning should wear comfortable clothes and sneakers and plan on staying for the entire 2 1/2 hours. Audition forms can be picked up immediately prior to auditions.

"A dream is a wish your heart makes" is a song from Cinderella that could sum up the Petite Players. Grand Theatre owner Lori Kolodziej could only dream of a Children’s Drama Troupe years before she, and a group of dedicated parents and volunteers, were able to make it a reality.

Back in the spring of 2007, Musical Theatre students at the Grand Theatre were looking for a way to continue their theatre experience, stay together as a group, and showcase their talents on a regular basis. Parent Stacy Marzolf agreed to direct a group of 28 kids in their first production of Jungle Book. The success of that show resulted in the initial formation of the Petite Players (Petite was chosen as a "play" on the theatre’s name Grand).

The group has grown to nearly 50 members now in grades 5-12. The program strives to enhance self-esteem, foster team spirit, and provide an outstanding opportunity for young people to share in the thrill of the performing arts.

One of the real benefits of the program is the opportunity to meet and act with children from many different schools. No less than thirteen schools are represented including Elizabeth Forward, West Jefferson Hills, Clairton, Propel-McKeesport, Belle Vernon, Yough, Ringgold, South Park, Brentwood, Bishop McDowell, East Allegheny, St. Angela’s in White Oak, and Wilson Christian Academy.

In addition to two performances per year, the program schedules regular workshops and field trips to allow members to experience the technical aspects of theatre.

The emphasis is on the process, not just the product. Children learn that in order to make a show successful every role is important.
